Transforming the Spare Room into an Ultimate Games Room

Whether you’re always the first to get the latest games console, or you prefer to sit back with a Crash Bandicoot on PS2, you deserve a room to relax and enjoy your free time.

The spare bedroom is the perfect place. Rather than hogging the TV in the lounge for a few hours, why not utilize a different space so you can get your game on uninterrupted?

There’s always that one room in the house that sits and collects everything you needed to put away but just didn’t get round to it. It’s a room that’s too small for a bedroom, and too big for a closet: It’s the perfect games room.

So, if you’re looking to create the perfect chill-out zone, here’s what you’re going to need.

Games and consoles (of course)

The key to any games room is, of course, the games. But that doesn’t just have to include the ones you play. Using old game posters, broken controllers, or vintage MegaDrives make the perfect décor to really transform your spare room into the best games room.

If the room is big enough, you might even be able to squeeze in a few offline games: A foosball table, ping pong, or a small table for cards and boards games will make the space much more interactive and fun for all the family.

Then, you’ll need a fab TV set up and your games console center stage.

Shelving

Depending on the type of gamer you are, you might have created quite a collection, so why not put them on display? In addition, installing shelves rather than using bookcases will keep the room open and spacious while not taking up any floor space.

Comfy seating

Non-gamers won’t know that you need very specific conditions to get into your game zone. But as you’ll likely be in the zone for a couple of hours (in an ideal world), you’re going to need something comfy to sit in.

If you’re a PC gamer, there are plenty of gaming chairs on the market for you to choose from. As for console fans, a cheap LoveSac bean bag will give you – and your mates – plenty of room to battle it out in the latest racing game. Pushing and knocking each other’s elbows is not permitted, though. No cheating!

If you prefer something with a little more back support, check out Craigslist or Facebook marketplace to see what second-hand, bargain armchair you can find. Of course, you could even go for a recliner… with cup holders…

A snack bars

For the ultimate gaming setup, you absolutely need a snack bar. So, stack a shelf with all your favorite sweets, crisps, and nibbles and fill a mini-fridge with soda or a few beers.

Competition

To launch your newly renovated room and show it off in all its glory, invite your friends around for a tournament.Of course, the loser has to refill the snack bar!

With your new space, you’re bound to be the place of choice for socializing, relaxing, and entertaining.
