Fancy Moving to Pattaya?

If you are a young, ambitious, career-driven person or a retiree who wants to enjoy the fruits of their labour with sun, sea, and a lower cost of living you can find in your own country, why not consider Thailand, and more specifically Pattaya as your destination? There are huge opportunities in Pattaya career-wise, and it is a vibrant city with so many things to see and do. But first, what do you need to do in order to get settled in there?

Housing

  • Find Accommodation – It goes without saying that this will be somewhere near, if not top of the list of things to get sorted. Depending on your preference, you’ll need to choose the area you want to live in, and then after that, are you looking to rent or buy apartment in Pattaya, or would you prefer a house. Take these things into consideration, and get good, solid advice from well-known real estate agents in the city.

Visa and Legal Requirements

  • Obtain the Correct Visa – This is situational of course. Are you retiring? Then it’s a retirement visa. Are you married or will marry a Thai citizen? Marriage visa. How about a work visa if you have a job set up there? Visas come with different stipulations and requirements, so ensure you are up to date on what you need to make the process as smooth as possible.
  • Know Local Laws – Things will not be the same as where you live. Get up to speed and the legal dos and don’ts of the land, but also how to act socially, and the social faux pas you want to try and avoid. Make sure you do your homework here, people!

Transportation

  • Local Transport – Transportation is one of the first things you will want to get set up when moving to a new place. Be aware of the public transportation systems, so the songthaews (an open truck taxi), traditional taxis, motorbike taxis, the numerous app rides available now and buses. All available, but make sure you know how they work.
  • Driving License – If you like an adventure and prefer walking to the road, get a Thai driver’s license. Foreigners can obtain them at a local driving license office, or you may be able to convert an international driver’s license, if you have them. But the same thing applies here – learn the rules of the road. Driving can be hugely enjoyable in Thailand, but trust me when I say it’s different!

Healthcare

  • Health Insurance – Please, please, please, whatever you do, get a level of health insurance that covers your needs, whatever they may be. You would definitely regret not having it and needing it, rather than having it and not needing it. Take a look at local health insurance providers to see what is out there for you. Take a look here for more on medical insurance.

Sort out these few things, and you are well on your way to enjoying a fantastic career, retirement, whatever stage of life you are at. Sit back, relax, and enjoy all that Pattaya, and Thailand, has to offer you. Click here for more information where you are.
