Naked Australian Man Causes Chaos on Virgin Flight: Shocking Mid-Air Incident

A Virgin Australia flight was forced to return to Perth shortly after takeoff after a man allegedly ran naked through the aircraft, causing panic among passengers and injuring a flight attendant. The incident occurred on Monday evening aboard flight VA696, which was scheduled to travel from Perth to Melbourne.

According to the Australian Federal Police, officers arrested the man after the plane landed back at Perth airport. The man allegedly ran naked through the cabin mid-flight and knocked a crew member to the floor. Authorities were alerted by airport staff before the plane’s return. The aircraft had been airborne for about an hour when the disruption took place.

A spokesperson for Virgin Australia confirmed the incident and stated, “The safety of our guests and crew is our top priority and we sincerely apologise to guests impacted.” The airline further reported that the disruptive passenger was “offloaded” by police once the flight returned to Perth.

One of the passengers on board, identified only as Sterling, provided an eyewitness account of the chaotic scene. Sterling, a 23-year-old mining engineer, was traveling to Melbourne for his university graduation scheduled for the following morning. He described the moment as deeply unsettling. “All of a sudden, I hear this running up the aisle and the guy’s got no clothes on and he’s just charging towards the front of the plane,” Sterling said.

He added that after the man allegedly knocked over a flight attendant, there was “a lot of yelling and screaming” near the cockpit area. Sterling described his initial reaction: “Initially, you think, God forbid, it could be an attack. It’s distressing being on a plane in that situation.”

The situation escalated quickly before several passengers intervened. Sterling noted that a passenger from business class immediately stood up to stop the man, followed by two others who helped tackle and restrain him. “One good Samaritan, this big guy in business class, jumped up straight away to intervene, and then these two other guys later got up and tackled him to the ground,” Sterling said. After being restrained, the man was pinned to the floor, handcuffed, and escorted to the back of the plane.

Another passenger, who spoke to Melbourne’s 3AW radio station, said the man had suddenly “gone bananas running up and down the aisle and bashing on the cockpit door.” The passenger further reported that “two air marshals had to restrain and handcuff the individual until the [flight] landed.”

Following the incident, the allegedly disruptive passenger was transported to a local hospital for assessment. As of Tuesday, he remained at the hospital, and authorities indicated that he was expected to be summoned to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court in June. Charges had yet to be finalised at the time of reporting.

The flight was originally scheduled to take approximately three and a half hours. Instead, the aircraft was forced to land back at Perth after only about an hour into the journey, delaying travel for all passengers onboard. Virgin Australia issued an apology to the affected travelers for the disruption and inconvenience caused.

The Australian Federal Police continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. No information has been released regarding the motive or mental state of the passenger involved.

There were no reports of serious injuries among passengers or crew aside from the flight attendant who was knocked to the floor during the incident.
